Borat style mankinis lead to arrests in Astana

During a match between FC Kairat and Club Brugge in Astana on Jan. 20, several Belgian fans mocked Kazakhstan by wearing bright green swimsuits associated with the film «Borat.»

According to the Astana city police department, three foreign fans were detained and taken to a police station.

«An administrative case has been opened against the individuals for public intoxication and minor hooliganism,» police said in a statement. «The case materials have been forwarded to the court for review, and the offenders have been placed in a temporary detention facility.»

«Borat» is a film featuring a fictional character portrayed by British actor Sacha Baron Cohen.

The movie depicts Kazakhstan in a deliberately exaggerated and widely criticized manner that bears little resemblance to the country’s real culture or society.
