International Boxing Hall of Fame elects Gennadiy Golovkin to Class of 2026

The head of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee and president of World Boxing, Gennadiy Golovkin, has been elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s (IBHOF) Class of 2026, becoming the first Kazakhstani athlete to receive such recognition.
«I am very excited and appreciate this so much. This is the biggest honor in boxing and the last piece of the puzzle in my career. My dream has come true! I’m proud to have a legacy in boxing,» IBHOF cited Golovkin as saying.
The induction ceremony will be held from June 11 to 14, 2026, in Canastota, New York State, where the Hall of Fame is located.
Along with Golovkin, the 2026 inductees are Antonio Tarver and Nigel Benn in the Men’s Modern category; Naoko Fujioka and Jackie Nava in the Women’s Modern category; trainer / cut man Russ Anber, referee Frank Cappuccino (posthumous), trainer / cut man Jimmy Glenn (posthumous) and physician Dr. Edwin «Flip» Homansky in the Non-Participant category; journalist Kevin Iole and broadcaster Alex Wallau (posthumous) in the Observer category; and Jimmy Clabby (posthumous) in the Old Timer category.
Golovkin’s career
Gennadiy Golovkin, 43, held the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO titles. He scored 23 consecutive knockout victories and set the middleweight record for successful title defenses — 22.
Golovkin had 45 bouts in total over his professional career. He won 42 of them, 37 by knockout. In his trilogy of fights with Saul «Canelo» Alvarez, he recorded two losses and one draw. The boxer last fought in September 2022.
Since February 2024, Golovkin has served as the head of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee, and in late November the Kazakhstani athlete was appointed president of World Boxing.
Context
The International Boxing Hall of Fame was founded in 1989. The induction of new members is considered one of the most respected traditions in global boxing. Becoming part of the IBHOF is a career-defining honor, recognizing a boxer’s contribution to the sport on a par with Olympic and world titles.
