Shymkent leads Kazakhstan in five star hotel prices

There are 25 five-star hotels in Kazakhstan and the most expensive one turned out to be in Shymkent.
According to Kazakhstan’s Bureau of National Statistics, 3,198 rooms were available in the country’s top hotels for wealthy tourists from January to September 2025. This includes 2,463 standard rooms in five-star hotels, 1,177 suites and 278 apartment-hotel units.
Furthermore, one-third more residents of Kazakhstan spend their vacations at these hotels than foreign tourists — 370,000 compared to 265,000. Among affluent foreign visitors, 56% choose Almaty for their vacations in Kazakhstan.
The room occupancy rate is highest in the Akmola region, reaching 75%, likely due to the tourist appeal of Burabay National Park.
Kazakhstan’s most expensive five-star hotelsThe average price for a room in a five-star hotel in Kazakhstan is 71,674 tenge (roughly $142), while the highest rate is in Shymkent. The southern city surpassed both Almaty and Astana, with an average price of roughly $276. The top five cities by room-night rate are as follows:
It is worth noting that the number of stars is determined by the owners of the facility. However, this procedure will soon be revised, as the Ministry of Tourism and Sport plans to compile the rankings according to Hotelstars Union international standards.
