Huawei unveils AI powered mini plush emotional companion

Chinese tech giant Huawei has presented Smart Hanhan — an emotional-support AI plush companion. The toy was showcased alongside the Mate 80 smartphone line, with all three models selling out shortly after sales began, Gizmochina reported.

Smart Hanhan is a compact plush toy with a height of 8 centimeters and a weight of 140 grams. The electronics are concealed inside, while the exterior is finished in soft fabric and silicone. However, its standout feature is its emotional intelligence.

The plush companion can identify the user’s mood, pick up intonations, and hold natural conversations thanks to the Xiaoyi large-model AI system that powers it. It also responds to voice, touch and movement.

Hanhan reacts to touch by altering its facial expression and when lightly shaken, it responds by trembling excitedly.

The companion’s battery life ranges from six to eight hours of active communication or up to two days in a calm mode. A full recharge takes six hours.

Hanhan is compatible with devices running HarmonyOS 5.0 and newer, including the Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate X7 and Mate 80 RS. When connected, the toy starts an emotional logbook where the user’s mood and interactions are recorded.

The price of the plush companion is 399 yuan (roughly $56).

Perhaps this emotional device could gather a fan base amid the popularity of collectible toys and even emerge as a rival to Labubu.
